Meeting the Tuatha Dé Danann
in the Cath Maige Tuired
This class has started, but there's still time to catch up!
Registration closes on 19th February
The Cath Maige Tuired (The 2nd Battle of Moytura) is a classic and central part of the Irish "mythological cycle". The stories within it run the gamut from heroism and romance to comedy and tragedy. It includes stories you may know, or have heard of, such as The Mórrígan's meeting with the Dagda at the River Unshin, Lugh's conversation with the gatekeeper at the gates of Tara, and Nuada's silver arm.
Cath Maige Tuired is useful for introducing many of the Tuatha Dé Danann in clear characterisations, and tells a good story in the process. The text is not particularly long or difficult, so we should be able to explore it at a relaxed pace.
There is required reading for this class. Most of it is available on line, but I would like everyone in the class to have a copy of Morgan Daimler’s inexpensive translation of Cath Maige Tuired. (Please make sure that it is this translation, and no other! See below for advice on purchase.)
I strongly encourage students to attend classes in person, but recordings are available on request if you miss a class.

This was recorded during the 'Celtic Beginnings' class I taught last year.
On registration, you will receive a study guide which will include a class outline, help with pronunciation, required reading, and some extra suggested reading for those who want it.
