Imbolc always inspires me, and over the years I've written a number of poems about Brigid and the Cailleach at this time of year. This little volume features four of my favourites.

"That's a lot of learning, experiencing, thinking, being that went into those writings.  Their tone ranges from lilting and passionate to wild and world-shaping. Thanks for the gorgeous poems."

            - Mael Brigde, Brigit's Sparkling Flame

"Some of the most amazing pagan poetry I’ve ever been blessed to encounter. These poems masterfully weave together authentic lore with deeply spiritual imagery that would be perfect for an Imbolc ritual or Bardic circle."                                -

              - Sharon Paice MacLeod, author of Celtic Cosmology and the Otherworld, and The Divine Feminine in Ancient Europe

At Imbolc, Brigid, the goddess of poetic inspiration (and many other things) walks the land. The weather is often wild at the beginning of February, and I never feel more alive than when out walking in a blizzard, and never more appreciative of a warm hearth than when I go back indoors.

These poems were composed over many years, and under the influence of different folkloric ideas – particularly that of the juxtaposition of Brigid (or Bride, as we call her in Scotland) and the Cailleach.

This book contains three longer poems, and one shorter one, three of which I've published on the blog over the years, although there are some revisions in this volume. They are The Cailleach Becomes Bride, If Angus Would Come, the prose poem Cailleach Rant, and Woman of the White Sky.
